PRESS REVIEWS

The most affecting scene comes in the opening act, as Valjean is astonished and moved by the Christ-like charity of the Bishop (Colm Wilkinson) who takes him in, forgives him for attempting to steal and protects him from arrest (“I have saved your soul for God”).
Peter Bradshaw, Mail & Guardian

When Colm Wilkinson - the Valjean in both the original London and Broadway productions - cameos as a kindly bishop, giving Jackman a second chance at a free life, it’s a glorious moment, a passing of the torch from one generation to the next and a gleeful reference for longtime fans of the show. And while Jackman is never less than a joy to watch, in that one scene at least, I wished that Hooper had found a Valjean who could rival Wilkinson in sheer musical ability and presence, movie star or not.
Craig Manning, Western Herald

But for all its slight imperfections, there is much to admire including performances from the old and the new, and a treat, in the form of Colm Wilkinson’s Bishop, for anyone who saw him play Valjean on stage.
Vincent Ralph, hereisthecity.com

How great, too, to see Colm Wilkinson – the most well-known stage Valjean – as the Bishop (what a voice)
moviebrit.com

Colm Wilkinson, known for his stage performances as Jean Valjean, is a total, albeit brief, knockout as the bishop.
Aaron Wilder, reporternews.com

Bringing Colm Wilkinson (the original Valjean) to play the Bishop was a wonderful addition and served to bring the legacy of Les Misérables to a complete circle.
